Fredericton, NB – Winterfest NB Inc is pleased to announce that an appropriate site for Winterfesthiver 2010 has been secured on the property of Maritime Fibre and Energy on the Royal Road. Unfavourable site conditions at the Sunset Drive venue of Winterfesthiver 2010 left organizers scrambling to identify a suitable alternate venue for the highly anticipated winter festival.
The new venue, located in the City of Fredericton, is only 1.5 kilometers from the Ring Road. “There are over 5 hectares available for parking and twice that available for the planned activities for this year’s event,” said John Antworth, Founder and President of Winterfest NB Inc, the non-profit, volunteer organization that presents the popular winter festival. “The property is ideal for our purposes with more than enough room to accommodate all of our visitors and then some. Based on our record of presenting a quality event, the community-minded landowners have graciously cooperated with us to make this, our 8th winter festival, possible.”
Winterfesthiver 2010 takes place Feb 20-21. The main attractions are the Gigantic Ice Slides and the SnowMazing Labyrinth. They will be joined by snow sculptures, pony rides, horse drawn sleigh rides and polar bear games of bowling, curling and golf. New partnerships will bring many more activities to entertain everyone!
The Winterfest NB Inc committee hopes Mother Nature will cooperate with seasonal temperatures during the two week construction period leading up to the festival. While the change in venue and fluctuating temperatures are challenging, the organizers, all volunteers, think the festival is worth it. If the shrieks and squeals of delight heard during the event are any indication, the visitors to Winterfesthiver think so, too.

Winterfest NB Inc relocates and reschedules Winterfesthiver

Fredericton, NB – With unfavourable site conditions at the Sunset Drive venue of Winterfesthiver and unseasonal weather in the forecast, John Antworth, Founder and President of Winterfest NB Inc (a non-profit, volunteer organization) announced the re-scheduling of Winterfesthiver 2010 to Feb. 20-21.
Organizers have identified an alternate site that will accommodate all visitors and will spend the next two weeks working out logistics with the site owners and the event sponsors, partners and volunteers, while hoping for temperatures conducive to snowmaking and icing the slides.
“It is challenging to adapt to a new date and venue on the eve of construction, but that is the nature of an outdoor winter event,” said Antworth. “I have a great committee of enthusiastic volunteers who take such set-backs in stride and work toward solutions. I think it is a testament to our record of presenting a worthwhile, quality event when community-minded landowners will graciously cooperate with us to make it possible.”
The postponement will allow for a change to more seasonal weather, both in temperature and precipitation. Consistently cold temperatures are crucial during the two-week construction period for snowmaking and icing the slides.
“By securing an alternate site and postponing for two weeks, we anticipate being able to fulfill our obligations to our sponsors, our partners, and our visitors, while maintaining the integrity of Winterfesthiver’s main attractions which are the slides and the maze.”
“All that is needed now is for Mother Nature to cooperate with cold, steady temperatures; some snow wouldn’t hurt. It sure makes it interesting from an organizing standpoint, but we believe it’s worth it.”
If the shrieks and squeals of delight heard during the event are any indication, the visitors to Winterfesthiver think so, too.
